Eight (8) culverts were replaced in this stage. All replacement culverts were installed with endwalls to help capture and direct stormwater flow. Additionally, white stone or “rip rap” was placed in the immediate inlet and outlet areas of all culverts to curb erosion during heavy stormwater periods. The Town of Calumet manages an inventory of 106 stormwater culverts. Typical culvert useful lifespan is 25 years. This project combined with three (3) culvert replacements in 2019 account for 10% of the entire culvert inventory for our town.
Next Stage(s) of the project:
1. “Ditching” activity along selected stretches of Kiel and Townhall Rds. This activity reshapes ditch contours to keep stormwater flowing away from roadway surfaces and through the roadside culvert system without obstacles or interruption.
2. Paving activity along Kiel and Townhall Rds will begin on or about Monday, September 14 and be completed by end of September.
3. The final stage of the project will consist of completing twenty-two (22) road edge patches on Schoenborn, St Paul and Schumacher Rds. These will be completed in first half of October 2020.
Please take caution and reduce speed while traveling in work areas as signage will be posted as the project moves toward completion.
